Getting into a motor vehicle collision can be stressful, especially for expatriates unfamiliar with Saudi traffic regulations. In Saudi Arabia, minor traffic accidents where at least one party holds valid vehicle insurance and there are no bodily injuries are surveyed by Najm Insurance Services (نجم) rather than the traffic police (Muroor).
What to Do Immediately Following a Collision
- Check for Safety: Ensure all passengers are uninjured. If there are severe injuries, fatalities, or fire, call emergency services immediately (Ambulance: 997, Civil Defense: 998, Police: 911/993).
- Verify Insurance: If both drivers have zero insurance, the collision falls under Traffic Police jurisdiction (call 911). If at least one party holds active insurance, Najm handles the incident.
- Do Not Move the Car Until Photographed: Take clear photos of all vehicle angles, license plates, and road surroundings. Then move vehicles safely to the road shoulder to prevent traffic congestion.
Step-by-Step: Reporting via the Najm Mobile App
- Open the official Najm App (or dial their unified hotline: 920000560).
- Allow the app to pinpoint your live GPS location on the map.
- Enter your Iqama Number, vehicle sequence number, and phone number.
- Input the other driver's plate details or Iqama number.
- Upload photos of vehicle impact zones directly through the app.
- Submit the report to receive an official Najm Accident Case Number via SMS.
- A mobile investigator will either evaluate the photos remotely or dispatch a patrol unit to the scene.
Understanding Najm Fault Percentage & Claims
The Najm investigator evaluates the incident and assigns a legal fault percentage (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%) to each driver:
- 0% At Fault: You are fully innocent. The opposing party's insurance covers 100% of your repair evaluation.
- 100% At Fault: Your third-party insurance settles the other driver's damage. If you have comprehensive insurance, your insurer repairs your car minus your agreed policy deductible.
- Next Step (Taqdeer): Take your accident report number to an official Taqdeer (تقدير) inspection center to evaluate vehicle repair costs for insurance reimbursement.
