In accordance with Ministry of Health (MOH) and Ministry of Human Resources regulations, handwritten or paper medical excuse slips are no longer valid for official sick leave in Saudi Arabia. All accredited healthcare facilities—including private clinics, polyclinics, and government hospitals—must issue digital sick leave through the national health network (Sehhaty / Seha platform).

Every electronic sick leave certificate includes an official MOH barcode and Service Code (رمز الخدمة) that allows HR departments to authenticate the document directly.

Step-by-Step: How to Download Your Sick Leave via Sehaty

  1. Download and open the official Sehaty (صحتي) app on your smartphone.
  2. Log in using your National ID / Iqama Number and password, or authenticate via Nafath.
  3. From the bottom navigation bar, tap on Health Profile (الملف الصحي).
  4. Select Medical Reports & Sick Leaves (التقارير الطبية والإجازات المرضية).
  5. Locate the specific sick leave entry issued by your physician.
  6. Tap on the report to view the attending physician's name, medical facility, start date, and total approved days.
  7. Click Download PDF / Share to save the certified document directly to your device and email it to your employer.

Expat Employee Rights Under Saudi Labor Law (Article 117)

According to Article 117 of the Saudi Labor Law, an employee whose illness is proven through an official medical report is entitled to paid sick leave within a single contractual year as follows:

  • First 30 Days: 100% Full Pay.
  • Next 60 Days: 75% of Wage.
  • Subsequent 30 Days: Unpaid Leave.
